stillness

What’s the best thing you can do when you have no time for anything on a crazy busy day, chef?

This might sound counterintuitive: but please, grab a moment of stillness. You don’t have to do anything else. Just take a moment of quiet, empty mind, without a million thoughts going through it. You’re not doing, not being, even. You’re just present.

Detach yourself from everything in the kitchen for just that moment. Walk away. Take a deep breath. And sink into the emptiness. Just for those 5 seconds or 20 seconds or a minute. It won’t last forever.

When it’s over, pay attention to your mind. At least momentarily, you won’t have those thoughts and stress flooding back. Are you feeling refreshed? Has this shifted your perspective on how work is going?

Now you’re ready to get back to work.
