Take an honest look at what you bring to the table

Here’s an assignment for you today. As you go about your day in the kitchen, find your answers to these questions:

  • What’s my place in this kitchen?
  • What do I bring to the table? What do I contribute?
  • How much of myself do I give?
  • What effect does my presence have on the others?
  • How do my actions affect others and the working of the kitchen?

And after your shift, you finish this exercise by reflecting on what came up. Just sitting with the answers.

Were you conscious that you’re not giving your all? Did you see things that you want to change? Did it bring awareness of the impact of your behaviour on the rest of the team? Are you proud of what all the work you do? Do you see how we’re all connected?

If you want to grow in any capacity, the first step is to be fully aware of where you are currently. Be willing to take that honest look. There’s a lot of power in clarity. Even if it means that you see things you don’t want to see.

Be willing to take that honest look.

What do you bring to the table?
