The magic of life doesn’t come from the big events, but from those unexpected moments that take you out of your head and into the now.
You cover a lot of asphalt on the Camino del Norte and after Getaria, one stretch of open road was completely taken over by a huge flock of sheep, led by a shepherd yelling at them in Basque. It’s something I had never come across before and I stepped aside to make way for them, fascinated. It took the party quite a few minutes to pass by. But this little disruption so completely drew me into their world that I felt refreshed afterwards.
Give yourself the space to experience these moments, or better still, build into your day opportunities to open up to the unexpected. Take that walk, take a chance with a new ingredient, talk to someone you’ve never spoken to before. Open up to the magic of life, chef.
