camino-8

This could not be more true on the Camino de Santiago. In every moment you get to appreciate how much your pilgrimage has been supported by others – from those who carved out the trail over a millennium ago, those who thoughtfully mark and maintain it for you, the albergues set up just to serve pilgrims, the countless fountains keeping you hydrated along the way, the bars that let you use their facilities even without a sale, people whose backyards you walk across, people who magically appear to point you in the right direction, those who greet you with, “Buen camino”.

I walked the Camino solo, but I was never alone.

But isn’t that true for all of us, chef? We seldom stop to appreciate it, but every aspect of our lives has been made more comfortable by countless others. Maybe, like me, you’ll utter a silent ‘thank you’ when that reality sinks in?
