self-awareness

Your mind sometimes gives you useful insights or instructions (don’t forget to buy milk on the way home) and also indulges in more pointless ones (he said, she said, I think..). Of late, when my mind has been too full of chatter, I’ve been trying a technique to just walk away from those thoughts that really don’t serve me.

The minute I become aware of the drama going on in my head, I shift my awareness to my belly. Just like they ask you to do at the start of meditations to help you relax. Immediately, the stress, self-doubt or fear dominating my thoughts disappears.

This practice is powerful because it empowers you to choose what you want to make space for in your mind. Would you rather get get involved in fears about your new menu or be receptive to a brainwave about a new dish?
