“I know the saying goes ‘manage stress before it manages you’. But if I’m honest, I think I let it manage me, more often than not.”

You know for certain that you do not want to be ‘one of those’ chefs: so you put a lot of care into the team and culture you have built. And as a result, you shoulder far more than your fair share of the stress that goes with our work.

Is there a right way to deal with stress, you wonder. In a crisis, you try to contain your reaction to avoid taking it out on the team. But you know the workflow has been interrupted. Everyone is distracted, almost sensing your anger. And you struggle to regain your own focus.

Then there are those times when you have vented your frustration, unable to catch the words before they flew out. It quickly brings everyone to focus. But leaves you filled with regret. This is not the way you want to get things done, by shaking the confidence of the team and their trust in you.

As a coach, I am here to tell you that you do not need to learn new tactics to manage the stress of service. You have the tools that you already use to ground yourself, or the inner wisdom to know what exactly you need to do.

What would be helpful is to have the right structures in place, so that you are able to manage stress effectively. Especially in those moments of crisis. This is what we work on during the 1-hour Rebalance Yourself Strategy Session.
