What habits from your work do you carry over into your time off?

In my interview with Chef Taffy Elrod, she spoke of something common to many: delaying basic tasks such as eating a meal or taking a comfort break. Others have spoken to me about speaking to their loved ones in an abrupt manner, like they do while giving instructions on the pass.

Even more subtle ‘spillovers’ of work are rehashing conversations or incidents at work in your mind, long after they have ended. Because you are still processing what went on.

My message here is to just be aware of this, without judgement. Of course, it is hard to switch off from the high-pressure environments we spend so much time in.

If you do become aware of a habit that you carry over from your work, my suggestion to you is to simply remind yourself that you are at home now. That little act of acknowledging the fact will help to reinforce that thought in your mind, and hopefully, help you a little more with switching off from your work for the moment.

Carry over
