unknowns

Sometimes the unknowns that you encounter in leading a team are those things that you actually can’t answer or do yourself. You just go ask for help and you do it without thinking: the finance guy helps you ‘get’ the numbers, your sous chef teaches you a technique she learnt at her last workplace or you steal a favour from your friend.

But we’ve all been in difficult situations where it hasn’t been easy to admit a lack of knowledge or ability. When we’re more concerned about how we’ll be perceived or judged. Especially when you’re new to a job or even more so if you’ve been doing it for decades.

If you want to grow, simply sink into your humility and ask for that support or help. Choose solving the problem or getting out of a difficult situation over your pride.

Because that’s your learning edge, chef: where you learn more from not having the answer.
