Whether or not you believe in the maxim that “leaders are born, not made”, there’s one simple rule if you’re moulding someone into leadership. You have to first see the potential in someone, almost before they see it in themselves.
There’s something in your vision for them, in your giving them the space to develop, in your helping their potential to unfold. That’s what helps them emerge. It’s like how a parent helped you learn to walk before you really knew you could.
What does not enable this process, on the other hand, is lack of faith, not fully trusting, less than 100% confidence in them.
What’s required here is allowing, chef. Allow them to grow into the leader that you see them becoming.
