A fellow passenger on the freezing bus journey this morning was wholeheartedly enjoying his breakfast, making sounds of contentment, of real appreciation. I could feel from his energy that he was nourished. All this from a simple bacon butty and a cup of coffee.
You don’t know the impact you have on people, chef. Maybe he found comfort before a difficult conversation with his bank. Maybe it was just relief from the unseasonably cold weather. Even if it took him five minutes to consume your food, for those five minutes he was connected with his body and providing it the fuel it needed to face the day.
Your work matters. However humble it is. Even if you’ve spent your day prepping carrots. Don’t wait for someone else to remind you. Own the truth about your work, chef!
