Our kitchen culture does little to acknowledge that we as chefs have a life outside of work.

But I think that is to the detriment of our service: when we accept this truth, we can make allowance for how these two aspects of our life affect each other. We can approach the challenge of work-life balance with pragmatism, instead of trying to ignore that it exists.
